Pet owners and their pets are invited to a Blessing of the Animals at United Methodist Temple in Beckley on Sunday, Sept. 29 at 2 p.m.
All pets are welcome on the upper lawn of the church at 201 Templeview Drive, Beckley. They will receive a blessing from a United Methodist pastor and a treat during the free, informal service that celebrates all of God’s creation.
Pets should be on leashes or in carriers, or even in fish bowls or portable terrariums, event planners said. Photographs of pets who are difficult to transport are also welcome.
The event commemorates the life of St. Francis of Assisi, a 12th century religious figure remembered for his love for animals and nature, generosity to the poor, and his willingness to minister to lepers.
